Hear Our Prayers
The Baptized for Life/Vida en Abundancia Prayer Team is filled with people who have both a deep commitment to contemplative living and a deep confidence in the power of prayer to help make space for God’s Holy Spirit to be heard—as well as to act—in our lives. It is a gift to us to be invited into this ministry, to hold in prayer by name every day, all BFL | VEA faith communities as they continue their journey with BFL | VEA in their own locations, as well as the leadership team, sponsors, and those outside this initiative inspired by the project.
We look forward to hearing from you through this prayer request page. The BFL Prayer Team will receive your requests, confident that the Spirit is already doing greater things than we can ask or imagine. It is our privilege to companion you on your journey in this way.

The magnificent oak is a living organic gift and spiritual grace. Its mature canopy diffuses the light without eliminating its healing properties. Often producing clusters of three acorns, the image reminds me of the Trinitarian gift of grace depicted in the life-sustaining seed of the oak.

This picture is a candle on the prayer cloth that I use during “green seasons”: Epiphany and the seasons of Pentecost. It is filled with images of Creation – plants, animals, trees, and birds, and illuminated always by the light of the Divine Presence. This is my prayer – focus each day.

For me, this is an image of the spiritual journey with the Holy One. We travel our path, seemingly returning to the same place, yet not. It may seem we return, but we are different, so it’s new. Lessons learned are relearned in new ways; God’s Light is always present, and our openness to noticing and receiving that Light and Love always varying. Ever deepening, ever held, journeying to the point of Oneness with God’s Great Love.

Yo continúo apreciando la práctica hoy, especialmente como surfista. Sin embargo, leer las aguas también puede ocurrir cuando no hay agua, porque el agua puede ser una metáfora de cualquier extensión ante mí. Parece esencial leer y discernir lo que está delante de nosotros, especialmente durante tiempos de gran incertidumbre. Las condiciones pueden cambiar rápidamente… ¿estoy prestando atención?

Reading the water has been a tradition in my family for hundreds of years, and it has always been my practice from my earliest memories. I continue to embrace the practice today especially as a lifelong surfer. Yet, reading the water also happens when there is no water, because water can be a metaphor for any expanse before me. It seems essential to read and discern what is before us, especially during times of heightened uncertainty. Conditions can change quickly…am I paying attention?
